Matemático y lógico estadounidense nacido en Austria. Comenzó su carrera como profesor en la Universidad de Viena, donde produjo su demostración pionera (ver teorema de Gödel) a principios de la década de 1930. Emigró a EE.UU. en 1940 y enseñó en el Instituto de estudios avanzados de Princeton. Allí, su cercana amistad con Albert Einstein lo condujo al campo de la teoría general de la relatividad y a soluciones de algunas de las ecuaciones de Einstein. Un hombre tranquilo y modesto, Gödel no se dio cuenta en un comienzo de la importancia de su famoso teorema y más tarde declinó muchos de los honores que le reportó.
